Robin van Persie signs on the dotted line

As reported by ManUtd.com, Robin van Persie has spoken for the first time about his dramatic move to the most domestically successful club in the country. Sat next to Sir Alex, Robin said:

“It’s an honour to sign for Manchester United. I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of so many great strikers, bringing my experience and playing my part to help the team compete for the biggest trophies in the game. I can’t wait to get started.” (via ManUtd.com though if you can put up with their ridiculous news letter popup you’re a better man/woman than i)

Sir Alex also added to comments yesterday by saying:

“Robin is a world-class striker with a proven record in England and in European football. His talents need no introduction to our fans – he has scored a number of goals against us in some classic battles with his former club. His movement, finishing and all-round ability are outstanding.” (same source)

Confirmation that the deal has been signed before 12:00 today means that van Persie will be eligible to make his United debut in Monday night’s league opener with Everton, away at Goodison and will be in line to make his home debut against Fulham a week on Saturday.

Enjoy that? Give it a share!
